The Process of Applying

The hiring process can seem overwhelming - we've broken it down for you to know what to expect.

Police Officer:

  1. Submit application

  2. Written Test (does not apply to laterals)

  3. Complete Personal History Statement

  4. Preliminary Interview

  5. Physical Test (row)

  6. Oral Board Interview

  7. Polygraph Examination

  8. Psychological Examination

  9. Medical/Drug Screening

  10. Chief's Interview 

Professional Staff:

  1. Submit application

  2. Typing Test (does not apply to all positions)

  3. Complete Personal History Statement

  4. Preliminary Interview

  5. Oral Board Interview

  6. Polygraph Examination

  7. Psychological Examination

  8. Medical/Drug Screening

Qualifiers: 

​​

  • Must be a US Citizen

  • Must be at least 21 years old at the time of licensing

  • Good moral character, with a stable work history and a valid Texas DL

  • Lateral Officer Requirements

    • Two years of continuous, full-time police service and be in good standing â€‹

  • Entry Level Testing Requirements        (TEMPORARILY WAVIED)​

    • 30 college hours from an accredited university with at least a 2.0 GPA OR

    • Four years active military duty with Honorable Discharge

Qualifiers:

  • Must be a US Citizen

  • Good moral character, with a stable work history and a valid Texas DL

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (manager and above require bachelor's degree)

  • Must be able to type 35 words per minute (for required positions such as dispatch, records, PSO)
